Joost 0.9.2 Problems

Flattr this

Since the last two Joost releases I have had major problems with Joost. The application runs the first time after install (automatically) before I get a "tvprunner.exe Error: Breakpoint exception reached". The support forums seem to suggest that the problem lies with users who have Dell computers, mainly the Latitude notebooks, such as myself.

As a side note I noticed that the new version of Joost uses the same underlying user profile technology as Firefox. That's open source in action for you!

Several comments have been made by people suggesting that the system32 directory contains files without a creation date, as part of the Dell initial disk image. I can't find any, and hence I can't fix the problem. My only solution at the moment is to reinstall the application every time I want to start Joost.

I'm looking forward to the Joost team fixing this problem. Previous installations of Joost (before 0.9.1) worked without this problem, so I'm sure they can figure out what they have changed since then. Obviously users cannot be expected to start deleting files out of their system32 directory. God only knows what havoc that would cause amongst the general population!

Update: Workaround
Try right clicking on the Joost shortcut icon on your desktop and selecting "Run as...". Run the programmer as the administrator and Joost should work. The problem would seem to be a permissions issue. The problem is still evident in the 0.10 release.
